My autobiography

Family Background
My name is Chia Ying Lin, who used to be a shy girl. But with the time passing away, I gradually overcome my shyness. I was born in a 5-member family with a harmonious atmosphere. My father is the person who is so truthful that his action is in accord with his words. Therefore, I admire and respect him very much. He always tells me to be an honest person, not to deceive others except for white lies. Hence, I attribute my honesty to my father's teaching. My mother, a housewife, who does housework diligently everyday without complaining. From her behavior, I learn that doing things with diligence is significant even though it's just a comon, ordinary thing. So, I have to do my best to complete everything with my efforts lest I feel ashamed of her expectation. I really learn a lot from them. In addition, they also inspirit me when I face some challenges, they encourage me not to look upon everything as predicaments. “There must exist another way for me to look for,” said my parents.

School life
I am studing at Department of Applied Foreign Languages in National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School (NTCVS). There are two reasons why I study at AFLA. Since I was in junior high, I has been so interested in English that I always done well on English tests. Moreover, I also have a deep curiosity in learning Japanese as I am fond of Japan. Hence, I chose AFLA as my major. In order to strengthen my languistic abilities, not only does I study the textbooks but also read magazines. I believe that the more I read, the better reading ability and the more vocabulary I will achieve. Furthermore, I also listen to English, Japanese songs and watch English, Japanese movies as my amusements so that I can enhance my listening ability . Every now and then, I practice English dialogues with my classmates during the class. I really enjoy learning with classmates every day and be content with such an effective environment. To my delight, my efforts paid off. I got the Intermediate-level Certificate of General English Proficiency Test afterward.

Besides taking lessons in knowledge from school, I have also learned the notion that "being ministrant to others is important" as I acted as a practicing training leader. Although it was laborious to help submit everyone's application form and a huge amount of registration fee to school, I still did my best and served everyone with enthusiasm. Whenever I served my classmates, I would receive a sense of achievement. It was a particular experience for me.

Besides studying, I also participated in a Talent Competition hold by school with my several classmates. We decided to show our accomplishments by dancing. In order to catch others' eyes, we devoted ourselves to practicing it untill we were content with it. Though we didn't got a good grade eventually, our attitude toward dancing was respect by judges and our teacher. To us, this was the best reward. This Talent Competition had become one of my memorable things in my life.

In NTCVS, I can not only strengthen my languisic skills, but also be capable of broadening my horizons.

Self-Evaluation
I am a girl who is interested in languages because of my curiosity about languages. Besides English, I'm also interested in Japanese. How amazing it is that everything could be expressed by the 50 letters in the alphabet! Though my major is English, I also learn Japanese abilities by myself. As long as I finish preparing schoolwork, I will move on to Japanese books, magazines, and so on. In addition to reading some Japanese articles, I listen to the Japanese rock and pop songs which are made by visual bands as well. (Being) Accurate to say, their music is so attractive that it arouses my fancy to Japanese. Inspired by their dedication to composing melody, I know that the attitude, which is just as same as learning a language. Their spirit really has a big influence on me and it changes me a lot. Deeply influenced by them, I do my best to learn English and Japanese well in order to make my dream more attainable.  In addition, I love playing the guitar, too. Though now I don't have time to sharpen my guitar-playing skills, my affection for it dosen't change. I will practice it after Joint College Entrance Examination terminate.

There are two mottos which I like very much. One is" Honesty is the best policy." And the other is" Nothing is more beautiful than a devoted person." My father always tells me that treating people and everything with honesty is significant so that I can have a clear conscience in my life. As for the latter, I learned the sense from my favorite band, SID. It's the band which enlightens me a lot. Both them have great impacts on me.

Future Perspectives
After my graduation, I will like to be admitted to my ideal university, National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology. I will choose English as my major since I don't want to stop sharpening my English ability. Thus, I will spare no efforts to develop it so as to be a useful person in the future. I'd like to be an interpreter who is capable of communicating with others. Learning English really does me good because it can help me broaden my horizon toward future such as learning new knowledge of different countries. Therefore, I have to strengthen my skills of languages so that I will accomplishment my dream in the future. With an eye to advancing my English abilities in all aspects, I sincerely hope that I can be admitted to your university.

autobiography-sample one

My name is Fang. I am now 17 years old. I have an English name called Matthew. I am studying in a private high school. There are five people in my family officer and my mother is a housewife. Both of my younger brother and sister are studying in junior high school. You might think that my family is a traditional and stern one because of my father. However, it’s the opposite. My father is an open-minded person full of sense of humor. I must say I am lucky to have such a happy family.
My father certainly have great influence on me, I always look up to him. His passion and dedication to his job and family are the best things us. He never forces us to do anything we don’t like. He gives us freedom of choice. That’s why I can join so many school activities and have the chance to develop my hobbies.
I have been very active. I am one of the computer freaks who just can’t take my eyes away from the computer screen. My friends know I am good in computer, so as their computers have troubles, they would come to me. I am also a picture in school baseball team. Our team has won many, many matches thus we gained an honorable title of ”unbeatable” team “I believe this is resulted from our constant practice, hard work and our strong team spirit.
Although computer and baseball take up most of my leisure time, I manage to use some spare time to play electronic guitar in a band. I use computer to make a lot of our songs into MIDI flies and send them forward to many friends. My friends love them and think it’s awesome. To be able to combine my knowledge of computer and music is my proudest thing. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t neglect my study. Unless my grades in school is OK, otherwise my parents won’t let me go all these.
I have been interested in computer since I was an elementary school student. That was the time Father had this big computer on his desk. Every time I was father’s absorbed face while using the computer, I developed this kind of admiration to it. I said to myself “I want to be like that one day.”
I liked to play around with my dad’s computer. One day I accidentally deleted one of my dad’s important files, I was very scared that my father would be furious with me. However it was not the case, my father gave me a gift instead of punishment. I was so surprised. Guess what? Yes, I got anew computer. Ever since then I have been addicted to computers, especially after the emerging of the Internet. Surfing the net has been one of my greatest hobbies.
The e-Commerce has changed our traditional form of life style. Take myself for example: I keep in touch with my friends through e-mail: I send my greetings through e-card; I buy books from e-book; I shop from many websites and I search information from the search engines.
Not to mention the importance of the e-era has brought most powerful reform to the business world banks and stock markets do transaction through the net, business direct transaction through the net, he space and time limitation no longer exist. I am fascinated to the new change and eager to take part in it. So I have decided to study in Computer and Information Science. I want to be a professional computer programmer who creates and designs the software to meet the needs of people in e-ear.

Best of the semester - ② (How to study for an exam)

Taking exams is an inevitable thing which makes students dizzy and even frustrated.  Notwithstanding,  some students still have a good way to prepare for it.  There are some good ways to study well below.  First of all, preview the courses you are going to take tomorrow so that you will have concepts previously when the teachers are teaching.  Secondly, do the assighments which are given by the teachers on time and ask teachers questions if you encounter some difficulties.  Thirdly, make sure that you have already figured out the questions and reviewed all the important concepts before the quizes and exams.  After all,  review can make you more impressive.  Last but not the least,  don't think preparing for the exams is such a miserable thing.  By this way, you can not only test your ability but also progress a lot from it.

Best of the semester - ③ (Effects of too much caffeine)

Do you drink coffee or tea to stay awake?  Both of them contain coffeine which can sober people up.  According to  the report, drinking a moderate amount of caffeine can help you concentrate your attention on what you are doing in short time.  Nevertheless, drinking too much caffeine may cause bad influence on your health.  Doctors point out that heavy caffeine use is more than 500 to 600 mg a day (four to seven cups of coffee).  There are serious effects of too much caffeine below:  Firstly, don't drink too much coffee or tea before you go to bed; otherwise, you may suffer from an insomnia which keeps you wakeful till next morning.  On account of bad sleeping quality for a long period, you will get nervous and anxious easily when you are going to do something important such as giving a speech, having a meeting or test.  Worst of all, you may get  headaches on and off.  Futhermore,  don't drink too much coffee or tea when you are on an empty stomach, it may do harm to your stomach and even result in nausea or other gastrointestinal problems.  Besides, drinking too much coffee may lead to not only muscle tremors that will keep you from holding something steady, but fast or irregular heartbeat that will make you be short of breath. Though the effects of drinking coffee or tea are not always negative, you need to control yourself when you are going to buy cups of them. Thus, only you pay attention to the amount of caffeine can you enjoy the benefits which it brings to you.  Due to all the above-mentioned effects, it is obvious that drinking too mush caffeine isn't good for health.

Best of the semester - ① (Why is English important?)

English is important for its being an international language.  People all over the world are speaking English. Why does English become so significant?  Here are some reasons below.  First of all, by virtue of its being spoken by legions of people around the world, we can go to another country without difficulties because we don't have the problem of not knowing local tongues.  We can communicate with locals by speaking English fluently.  Secondly, learning English can help us find a good job such as a tour guide for the foreseeable future.  As a tour guide, we can travel around the world to enrich our perceptions of life and learn other countries' civilizations.  By traveling, we can have a great valuable opportunity to experience cultural exchange.  Thirdly, learning English can help us jump on the bandwagon instead of being one step behind others.  We can catch up the world and know the latest knowledge by translating English into Chinese.  In short, the distance from country to country is no longer a problem as long as we keep learning it.

Discussing Effects-2 -revised

Acton is a small town in the Midwest, which is a safe, quiet, and clean place to live.  The lifestyle in the town hasn't changed very much over the past 100 years.  Last month, Stanley Manufacturing decided  to open a large factory in Acton.  Though the efforts are not always benefic for the town,  I am on the same page as those who support the construction of the large factory.  First of all, with the new factory being built, people there can have more job opportunities than ever.  In this case, they are capable of supporting their families instead of being anxious about the income.  Secondly, interior economy will grow rapidly on account of the commerce with other countries.  They can sell their domestic products to others to make a profit.  Thirdly, after becoming a prosperous town, more and more people will be appealed to this town.  With emerging technology and useful  knowledge they bring, the town won't be isolated from the other towns.  In a word, taking into account of these effects, I think it advantageous for Stanley Manufacturing to build a large factory in Acton.

Discussing Cause-1-REVISED

I would like to move to another country, especially Japan.  There are several reasons below.  Firstly,  I would like to move to Japan to learn Japanese culture.  Besides, I 'm interested in Japanese kimonos, which have a lot of styles, appealing to me.  Secondly, I'd like to go to my favorite rock bands' concerts.  It will be convenient for me to go to their concerts if I move to Japan.  So I don't have to buy expensive airplane tickets.  Thirdly, I also have an interest in learning Japanese.  In order to master Japanese and get used to their accent as soon as possible,  I think living there is the best choice.  It goes without saying that the fatest way to learn a language is to live there.  Furthermore, people in Japan are patient and have high living quality, which cause me want to move there.  Due to all of these reasons, one must conclude that moving to Japan is really fascinating for me.

Discussing Cause-2 -REVISED

Michael Williams opened a small music store selling compact discs.  After four months, the shop was out of business.  You may confused about why the store was closed.  There are several reasons below.  To begin with, due to the store's remote location being on a small side street, the store appealed to few people.  Secondly, Mr.williams spent too much money buying CDs, and most of the CDs were hip-hop and rock.  The sorts of CDs were so few that it couldn't catch middle-aged people's eye.  Moreover, he paid the sales clerks too much money per hour.  Consequently, he was unable to make both ends meet.  Furthermore, the business hours were so short that people couln't buy CDs in another time.  He should have opened the store at least for 6 hours from 6 o' clock PM to 12 o' clock AM every day, including weekend.  It was because most of people walked past the store at that time.   In addition, Mr.Williams wouln't accept checks or credit cards,  Thus, it wasn't convenient for customors to pay the CDs.  Due to all of these reasons, one must conclude that the shop would be closed.  Maybe he'll be successful next time after learning the lesson.

Expressing an opinion-2-revised

I am on the same page as those who oppose the death penalty.  Firstly, using the death penalty can deter people from committing crimes.  It can rid society of menaces.  In contrast, if the convicts are released from the prison, they may do harm to society again.  Secondly, it can protect human beings from danger.  Only executing death penalty can console people's heart.  Thirdly, using the death penalty makes criminals pay the ultimate price.  In this case, it's fair to those victims' family.  Because of these facts, it is self-evident that using the death penalty is the best way to deter people from committing crimes.

Expressing an Opinion-1-revised

Though the fact that wearing casual clothes is freer than wearing uniforms.  I feel that wearing uniforms is more convenient.  There are several reasons why I support wearing uniforms below.  To begin with, if something happens such as a car accident, the police can know the identities of the students immediately judged by their uniforms so that the police can inform their families right away.  In contrast, if the students wear casual clothes instead of uniforms, the police may take great pains to investigate the students' identities.  Secondly, students don't have to think over what clothes to put on every morning.  They needn't think which clothes they had already worn, all that they need to do is dress themselves in uniforms.  Thirdly, if students of the same school all wear casual clothes, the scene will be disorderly, while the scene of wearing uniforms seems orderly.  Besides, wearing uniforms may make students feel that they belong to the school.  Due to all of these reasons, students must conclude that wearing uniforms is a good choice.  Thus, stop grumbling and put on you uniform!

Michael Williams opened a small music store selling compact discs.  After four months, the shop was out of business.  You may confused about why the store was closed.  There are several reasons below.  To begin with, due to the store's unpopular location being on a small side street, the store appealed to few people. It was because that most of people walked past the store at that time.   In addition, Mr.Williams wouln't accept checks or credit cards,  Thus, it wasn't convenient for customors to pay the CDs.  Due to all of these reasons, one must conclude that the shop would be closed.

Comparing-3 (two people I know) -revised

Since junior high, I have been interested in listening to visual bands' music.  Out of my passion, I decide to introduce two excellent bassists from two popular bands in Japan.  One is Aki and the other is Iv.  To begin with, both of them play in visual bands and become famous super idols in Japan.  They are popular with teenagers.  Secondly, Aki is as talented as Iv, they devote themselves to composing music on their own for their bands.  As long as they have inspiration, they write on their scores.  That's why they create a lot of touching melody which always appeals to the public.  Thirdly, Aki and Iv are alike in the same habits.  Aki is used to going to Fitness Center for developing his muscles.  Similarly, Iv is used to going to Fitness Center for keeping himself in a good shape.  Moreover, Aki is as humorous as Iv.  Both of them are interesting while they are in talk shows.  Their behaviors always catch others' attention.  To sum up, they are alike in many ways when it comes to music.

Our company are looking for a talented English instructor.  To our surprise, both two applicants meet our expectations, so we have to choose the one who fits the job best by considering their specialties below. Firstly, Debra Fines has more education than Lynn.  She  has studied in several schools and got many diplomas while Lynn Whitnall has only one diploma from New York University.  Secondly,  Debra's employment experience is senior to Lynn's.  She has acted at many positions and is well-experienced.   In addition, Debra also had English Verb Tenses published by Shortman Publishing Company in 2006.  From the several points above, Debra does be an excellent person for us to choose.  But we also reflect over Lynn's language skills.  When it comes to speaking languages, she is second to none.  Lynn is fluent in several languages such as Spanish, French and Japanese, whereas Debra is only fluent in French.  We think that Lynn can be good at speaking English, too.  Moreover, she is excellent in teaching so that she got an award in 2004.  After thinking twice, we decide to hire Lynn Whitnal as our English instructor because we are lack of a gifted person who is good at speaking languages.

Discussing Cause-1

I would like to move to another country, especially Japan.  There are several reasons below.  Firstly, I 'm interested in Japanese kimonos, which have a lot of styles, appeal to me.  Therefore, I would like to move to Japan to learn Japanese culture.  Secondly, I'd like to go to my favorite rock bands' concerts.  It will be convenient for me to go to their concerts if I move to Japan.  So I don't have to buy expensive airplane tickets.  Thirdly, I also have an interest in learning Japanese.  In order to master Japanese and get used to their accent as soon as possible,  I think moving there is the best choice.  As a result, the fatest way to learn a language is to live there.  Furthermore, people in Japan are patient and have high living quality, which cause me want to move there.  Due to all of these reasons, one must conclude that moving to Japan is really fascinating for me.

Expressing an opinion-2

I am on the same page as those who oppose the death penalty.  Firstly, using the death penalty can frighten people to commit crimes.  It can rid society of menaces.  In contrast, if the convict is released from the prison, they may do harm to society again.  Secondly, it protect humans beings from danger.  Only executing death penalty can console people's heart.  Thirdly, using the death penalty makes criminals pay the ultimate price.  In this way, it's fair to those victims' family.  Because of these facts, it is self-evident that using the death penalty is the best way to deter people from committing crimes.

Expressing an Opinion-1

Despite the fact that wearing casual clothes is freer than wearing uniforms.  I feel that wearing uniforms is more convenient.  There are several reasons below why I support wearing uniforms.  To begin with, if something happens like a car accident, the police can know the identities of the students immediately judging by their uniforms so that the police can inform  their families right away.  In contrast, if the students wear casual clothes instead of uniforms, the police may take great pains to investigate the students' identities.  Secondly, students don't have to think over what clothes to put on every morning.  They needn't think which clothes they had already worn.  They just need to dress themselves in uniforms,  Wearing uniforms can save a lot of time.  Thirdly, if students of the same school all wear casual clothes, the scene will be disorderly, while the scene of wearing uniforms seems orderly.  Besides, wearing uniforms may make students feel that they are belong to the school.  Due to all of these reasons, one must conclude that wearing uniforms is a good choice.

My friend and I are looking for an apartment to share near campus.  Fortunately, we find two apartments which can meet our expectations right away.  Both them are in acceptable price and near the campus.  To begin with, considered to its soft, I prefer two large bedrooms in Fairfax Apartments on account of that we don't have to share a room and we can have more personal space.  In contrast, CAMPUS APTS has only one bedroom.  Secondly, Fairfax Apartments is furnished, whereas CAMPUS APTS is unfurnished.  I think it's not convenient to move into CAMPUS APTS without furniture because of having to spend lots of money on buying those daily supplies.  Moreover, Fairfax Apartments has an air condition while CAMPUS APTS doesn't.  We can use it to be more comfortable when Summer comes.  However, we need to pay 1250 dollars per month for Fairfax Apartments , while we only need to pay 900 dollars per month for CAMPUS APTS.  Although the rent of Fairfax Apartments is more expensive than CAMPUS APTS, I believe it will be paid off.  So we would like to rent Fairfax Apartments.

Giving reason - (Why is English important?)-revised

English is important for its being an international language.  People all over the world are speaking English. Why does English become so significant?  Here are some reasons below.  Firstly, by virtue of its being spoken by legions of people around the world, we can go to another country without difficulties because we don’t have the problem of not knowing local tongues.  We can communicate with locals by speaking English fluently.  Secondly, learning English can help us find a good job such as a tour guide for the foreseeable future.  As a tour guide, we can travel around the world to enrich our perceptions of life and learn other countries’ civilizations.

A pleasant day-revised 1

It was such a pleasant day.  Coming out of a disc store, I came across a fan who also liked the music of Japanese bands.  Out of my excitement, I began to chat with her because I saw the same new album as what I just had bought.  After chatting for several minutes, I found a coincidence that we had met before!  The girl called Cherry studied at the same elementary school as I did; nevertheless, she had changed so much and looked really different from what she used to be.  I didn't recognize her until she told me her name.  After recognizing with each other, We found a place to take a rest and talked about the new album.   How wonderful the atmosphere was!  Our relationship became closer and closer afterward.  I'm so glad to have such an oppurtunity to have come across her.  It was really pleasant to share the same feelings about our favorite bands.
